Situated in the heart of Saint Petersburg on the Palace Square , The Hermitage actually is a complex of few connected buildings that form the Museum. Be prepared to spend a lot of time inside – the huge collection consists of more than 3 million items. Actually The Hermitage is the oldest museum in the world open to public since 1852. We spent more than 4 hours inside and didn’t make the whole tour. You can rent an audio guide and start exploring the collection. It’s worth paying a visit not only for the precious vases, paintings, furniture and so on, but for the interior. The interiors of the State hermitage Museum are spectacular , typically for Russian Tsars overloaded with gold, marble, stones, etc. You will probably never see halls so lavishly decorated. Don’t forget to look up at the ceilings!
